The world is rapidly embracing new ways to generate and use energy—and the countries that transition fastest to these new energy technologies are almost certain to dominate the global economy in the future.
According to research firm Prismatics, the global market for renewable energy is currently US$1.48 trillion, and is expected to grow to $7.28 trillion by 2032—just seven years from now. Americans have long been at the forefront of innovating new energy technologies, and we believe our neighbors, family, and friends should reap the financial benefits of this massive investment in our future, too.
Thirteen years ago, we launched REACH Strategies as a nonpartisan, nonpolitical strategic consulting and communications firm focused on emerging energy technologies. We want households, communities, and businesses across our country to share in the benefits of energy efficiency savings, investment, and job creation.
We need to stay globally competitive
Keeping the U.S. competitive will take serious effort. Asia is already driving key aspects of the energy transformation. Korean companies like Hyundai and Kia are ramping up EV production. China hasn’t just become the world’s largest consumer of EVs. It has become the world’s largest EV manufacturer, and more than 50% of all personal vehicles sold in China this summer were electric.
Around the world, the push to release new EV models, fleet vehicles, and charging stations continues to move forward, making it more convenient and more affordable to drive electric. These and other global energy transitions will sweep the United States into their wake— whether as a leader or follower.
Talking neighbor-to-neighbor about EVs and clean energy
As a nonpartisan and nonpolitical agency, politics do not drive our thinking. As politicized as the discussion around clean energy can be in the news, we’ve learned that people in communities across the country, regardless of political affiliation, are curious and eager to learn more about the benefits of the energy transition.
REACH launched our large-scale, brand-agnostic EV test drives and integrated marketing campaigns in 2013. We expanded that work across over 20 states during the first Trump Administration. The majority of our work is now focused in areas many would call “red” states and communities. We’ve supported hundreds of campaigns targeting tens of thousands of people across these areas, in cities large and small, during the past years.
The secret is direct engagement
Whether we’re engaging our neighbors to talk about EVs, electrifying communities, or good jobs—3.5 million Americans already work in the renewable energy field, a growing number —we rely on two crucial tools: direct engagement and personal experience.
Creating experiences allows us to have conversations that simply don’t happen on social media platforms or even in traditional mainstream media outlets. We get to hear from you—whoever you are, wherever you live—about how integrating new energy and transportation technologies can make your life better. Is it an EV that fits your family’s lifestyle? Is it a new appliance that can save you money? Is it a good career in a growing industry?
Experience places each of us in the drivers seat for our own electrification journey. We find, time and time again, working on behalf of clients across the energy industry, that the more we hear from our neighbors, the more they want to hear from us. A key data point from our work – over 90% of the people who participate in our activations call them excellent or better, even as they are dominated by people having a first time experience with the technologies we present.
Sharing the good news about the enormous economic benefits of the energy transition is a joy as well as our mission at REACH. If we as a country want to keep the clean-energy movement moving forward while remaining globally competitive, we need to talk to Americans about what really matters: our homes, our communities, our work, and our everyday lives.
